Our air conditioning has broken down, what do we do ?

There is no upper limit but sustained temperatures in excess of 25 degrees may be unacceptable. You must call Business Services for advice and in the meantime ensure your colleagues have plenty of cold drinks and are given time away to recover from the heat.

Our Heating has broken down, what is the minimum temperature to work in ?

There is a minimum working temperature of 16 degrees. General guidelines state that offices should be on average around 20 degrees. If your heating has broken down, find out how long it will take to repair. It could be that a component needs to be ordered, in that case you must contact Property Services and ask them to advise on providing portable heating. In the meantime ensure that your colleagues have plenty of hot drinks, breaks away from the coldest part of the branch and are able to wear their jackets.


How long can I work before I can have a break ?

You should not be working for more than 6 hours without a break. If you do, then you are entitled to have a 20 minute unpaid break.
