Stop Violence in the home

Women's Aid/Refuge and The Body Shop Campaign

Women's Aid are continuing their partnership with The Body Shop for their Stop Violence in the Home campaign and this year, the focus is on children - the forgotten victims of domestic violence.

In the UK, The Body Shop will work with Women's Aid in two ways. Firstly, they will work to raise awareness of the plight of children living with domestic violence with the general public, as well as calling on the Government to put protective policies in place to safeguard against abuse, and exposure to abuse. Secondly, The Body Shop will seek to raise money for Women's Aid's children's work including the sale of Daisy Soaps and Mint Lip Care Sticks in The Body Shop stores.

So far, Women's Aid have been able to use money raised so far by The Body Shop to provide The Survivor's Handbook and to develop The Hideout (the first national website for children living with domestic violence).

mum, I often heard shouting after I went to bed and could hear her crying.
Sometimes I would go downstairs to try and stop him from hurting her,
but I was too scared. Normally he would never touch her in front of me and they
would make out that everything was OK, and for a long time she didn't know that
I knew about the violence. At school I felt like I was the only one going through
this, and I used to feel guilty that I wasn't at home to protect my mum.
When I was 13, my mum plucked up the courage to leave and we went to
stay in a Women's Aid refuge, and they helped us to get a flat in a different area.
It hasn't been easy but we are now looking forward to the future together and
I am hoping to go to university next year."
