The Trade Union for the Staff of the Nationwide Group

This site provides advice, information and support to members of the Nationwide Group Staff Union, which represents over 13,500 members within Nationwide Building Society and its associated companies.

Background

Nationwide Group Staff Union (NGSU) is a recognised independent trade union. It was formed on the 1 February 1990 following the amalgamation of the Anglia Building Society Staff Association and the Nationwide Building Society Staff Association (which were formed in the early 1970's). The Portman Group Staff Association (PGSA) transferred its engagements to NGSU on 1 January 2008.

Nationwide Group Staff Union is a TUC affiliate.

Purpose

The sole purpose of the NGSU is to protect and promote the interests of Nationwide Staff and the Union has sole recognition rights with the Nationwide Group - see Recognition Agreement. We currently have over 13,500 members from Nationwide Building Society and its subsidiaries and other associated companies: Nationwide Trust; UCB Homeloans; and Nationwide International.

As of February 2008 we will have recognition rights within Legal & General (L&G) for employees who transferred from Nationwide Investment Group (NIG) to L&G.

NGSU has a democratic structure and follows policies determined at the biennial National Conference. You can read more about the Union, its structure and policies by selecting the relevant menu options in the About NGSU section.
